Premium packaging for sustainable beauty brands: makeup, fragrances, and skincare

The global beauty industry is undergoing a significant transformation, with projections indicating that the market will generate approximately $650.10 billion in revenue in 2024, and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.40% (CAGR 2024-2029).

As we approach 2025, several key trends are poised to reshape the beauty landscape:

1. Knowledge-Driven Personalization and Tech-Enhanced Beauty

Consumers are increasingly leveraging technology to personalize their beauty routines. Integrating augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) enables individuals to tailor products to their unique needs, moving beyond traditional methods. This shift empowers consumers to make informed choices, enhancing their overall beauty experience.

2. Sustainable and Eco-Ethical Practices

With the effects of climate change becoming more evident, there is a growing expectation for brands to adopt eco-ethical practices. Consumers demand a seamless connection between ethical practices and high-performance beauty solutions. This includes sustainable sourcing of ingredients, environmentally friendly packaging, and transparent supply chains.

3. Minimalistic and Multifunctional Skincare

The trend towards minimalism is influencing skincare routines, with a move away from complex regimens to simpler ones featuring multi-tasking products. Consumers seek effective, affordable solutions that suit a minimalist approach, driven by economic factors and a desire for efficiency.

4. Advanced Sustainable Packaging

Sustainable packaging is becoming a major focus within the beauty industry. Brands are shifting towards eco-friendly materials like recycled plastics, glass, and biodegradable options to meet consumer demand for environmentally responsible products. Minimalistic packaging designs that reduce waste and lessen environmental impact are also gaining popularity.

5. Biotechnology in Beauty

Biotechnological advancements are revolutionizing the beauty industry, making previously cost-prohibitive technology accessible to smaller brands. This allows for the development of highly effective and sustainable ingredients, offering new possibilities in personalized and efficient skincare solutions.

These trends highlight a shift towards personalization, sustainability, and technological integration in the beauty industry. Brands that adapt to these changes are likely to thrive in the evolving market landscape leading up to 2025 and beyond.

Portfolio of Makeup Packaging Projects by mPackting

The makeup industry in 2025 faces a unique blend of challenges and opportunities, particularly when it comes to premium packaging. As consumers demand more sustainable and luxurious solutions, brands must balance aesthetic appeal, functionality, and environmental responsibility in their packaging designs.

Makeup packaging must protect and preserve the product and elevate the customer experience. Every element requires careful consideration, from ergonomic designs for ease of use to materials that align with a brand’s sustainability goals. Furthermore, the rise of refillable packaging and multi-functional solutions adds another layer of complexity, pushing brands to innovate in design and material selection.

At mPackting, we pride ourselves on delivering tailored, eco-conscious solutions that meet these challenges head-on. Our expertise in wooden packaging and sustainable materials allows us to create practical and visually striking designs, helping brands stand out in an increasingly competitive market. Let’s take a closer look at some of our most impactful projects in makeup packaging.

The Cheeky Lipstick project: a collaboration with LA French Company

mPackting partnered with LA French Company to create a unique secondary packaging solution for the launch of their innovative Cheeky Lipstick. This project combined cutting-edge technology, eco-friendly materials, and a custom design tailored to enhance the product's market debut.

The centerpiece of this collaboration was the Cheeky Lipstick Anti-Crush Wooden Case, a packaging solution designed to provide both practical functionality and a visually striking aesthetic. Its robust design not only protects the lipstick but also elevates the unboxing experience, making it an integral part of the product’s storytelling.

Our team developed a bespoke design to perfectly integrate the Cheeky Lipstick, creating a packaging solution that is both practical and engaging. The case was crafted to reflect the brand’s innovative spirit while ensuring ease of use for consumers.

The packaging features WoodPin®, our patented wooden closure technology derived from years of experience in closure systems. This system uses four wooden pins to provide an optimal grip on the lipstick tube, preventing accidental spillage while ensuring a smooth, pleasant experience when inserting or removing the lipstick from its case.

The project prioritized sustainability at every step: the wood used in the case is FSC-certified, guaranteeing responsible sourcing and forest management, the brand communication plaques are crafted from mBlack, an innovative material certified as OK-Biobased and OK-Biodegradable by TUV-Austria.

This collaboration showcases mPackting’s ability to combine luxury packaging design, technological innovation, and environmental responsibility. By delivering a packaging solution that is as functional as it is beautiful, we helped LA French Company create a lasting impression with their Cheeky Lipstick launch.

The Tango lipstick project

The Tango Lipstick exemplifies a harmonious blend of luxury and sustainability, resulting from the collaboration between mPackting and Italian glass specialist Bormioli Luigi. This innovative lipstick case combines an FSC-certified wooden base with a refined glass cap, creating a premium aesthetic that appeals to eco-conscious consumers.

The design is fully customizable, offering a selection of wood types—such as beech, ash, or maple—and various finishes, including natural varnish, stains, metallisation, and bespoke colours. This flexibility allows brands to tailor the packaging to their unique identity.

Functionality is enhanced by a central ring made from bioplastic, featuring a removable click mechanism that facilitates easy refilling. The assembly is glue-free, enabling straightforward disassembly for recycling, and aligning with circular economy principles.

Consumers place great value on eco-packaging because it reflects ethical and responsible choices. For brands, adopting this approach goes beyond merely adapting to new market demands—it’s an opportunity to strengthen their image by demonstrating their commitment to sustainability. Eco-packaging has become a key differentiating factor in a highly competitive sector, offering both environmental and commercial advantages.

With the rise of these solutions, innovative makeup packaging is no longer just about aesthetics; it actively contributes to a greener, more sustainable future for the cosmetics industry.

Portfolio of Fragrance Packaging Projects by mPackting

Fragrance packaging in 2025 is at the intersection of luxury, sustainability, and innovation. As consumers demand eco-conscious solutions without sacrificing elegance, brands face significant challenges in designing packaging that aligns with these expectations.

One of the key challenges in fragrance packaging lies in selecting sustainable materials that maintain the premium look and feel required by high-end brands. Wooden components, recyclable materials, and innovative technologies are now taking centre stage, offering environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional plastics and metal components. At the same time, functionality remains crucial, with designs needing to ensure secure closures, durability, and reusability.

The rise of limited-edition collections and customization trends adds another layer of complexity, as brands seek to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive market. mPackting tackles these challenges by offering tailored, sustainable solutions that blend timeless craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation. Let’s explore some of the standout fragrance packaging projects developed by mPackting, showcasing our commitment to delivering premium, eco-friendly designs for the modern beauty market.

The Bottega Veneta limited-edition fragrance caps: a collaboration with mPackting

In collaboration with Bottega Veneta, mPackting proudly contributed to the design and production of the wooden caps for their exquisite limited-edition fragrance collection, conceived under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy. These caps are a testament to our commitment to blending craftsmanship, luxury, and sustainability, perfectly complementing the artistry of the bottles.

The fragrance bottles, inspired by Venetian glassblowing traditions, are adorned with air bubbles reminiscent of Murano glass. To complete this design, mPackting developed caps using FSC-certified wood, emphasizing the brand's dedication to sustainability and premium quality. Each cap is designed to seamlessly integrate with the unique design of the glass bottles, adding a warm, tactile element that enhances the overall sensory experience.

Our advanced manufacturing processes allowed us to deliver caps with impeccable precision, achieving a perfect fit and finish that aligns with Bottega Veneta's exacting standards. The collaboration reflects our shared values of innovation, heritage, and sustainability.

The caps utilize mPackting’s patented WoodPin® technology, featuring three cork pins that ensure a secure closure. This design protects the spray mechanism without relying on plastics or adhesives, leveraging the natural properties of wood and cork for functionality and elegance.

Inspired by Venetian architecture, the caps feature an asymmetrical design that is both visually striking and technically challenging to achieve with standard turning machinery, highlighting mPackting’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Portfolio of Skincare Packaging Projects by mPackting

Skincare packaging in 2025 is at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. The primary challenge lies in balancing aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. Skincare products often require packaging that ensures product protection, airtight seals, and durability, all while maintaining an elegant and premium appearance. Moreover, the growing trend toward refillable systems and biodegradable materials adds complexity to the design and manufacturing process.

Another critical aspect is aligning with sustainable regulations, such as the European Green Deal, which emphasizes reducing environmental impact across all industries. This requires brands to integrate recyclable materials, mono-material solutions, and energy-efficient production processes into their packaging strategies.

At mPackting, we specialize in creating custom packaging that combines luxury and sustainability. From innovative caps to refillable solutions, we work hand-in-hand with skincare brands to develop packaging that not only meets functional and aesthetic needs but also supports their commitment to a greener future.

Let’s explore some of the standout skincare packaging projects we’ve developed for leading brands.

The Reverre Case: Dual Cap Solutions by mPackting

mPackting proudly collaborated with Bormioli Luigi to develop two distinct cap designs for the Reverre refillable glass jar, a luxurious and sustainable packaging solution for skincare products. This project exemplifies our commitment to merging innovation, eco-design, and premium aesthetics.

mBlack cap - Crafted from our proprietary mBlack material, this cap combines sleek modernity with sustainability. mBlack, made from repurposed wood waste, offers a durable, eco-friendly solution that maintains a premium look and feel.

Natural Wood cap - Featuring an organic, textured finish, the second version of the cap highlights the unique beauty of natural wood. Its irregular surface provides a tactile and luxurious experience, aligning perfectly with brands seeking a more artisanal aesthetic.

The caps are designed to seamlessly pair with Bormioli Luigi’s refillable glass jar, a product renowned for its minimalist yet functional design. The jar includes an inner cap system that ensures product integrity and airtight sealing, reflecting the high standards of both brands. Combining these caps and the jar demonstrates how sustainable materials can be integrated into luxury skincare packaging without compromising quality or performance.
