MBLACK, A 100% BIO-BASED MATERIAL DERIVED ENTIRELY FROM RENEWABLE RESOURCES
The article delves into the creation of mBlack™, developed by Minelli Group in Bergamo, Italy, through its Minelli Materials division. Made from biochar derived from thermochemically converted wood waste, mBlack™ serves as a carbon sink, reducing CO₂ emissions while maintaining high structural performance. This innovative material replaces traditional rigid black plastics commonly used in cosmetics packaging.
mBlack™ is fully plant-based and does not generate microplastics at the end of its lifecycle. The material can be customized for different formulations and manufacturing needs, with Minelli Systems working towards a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to ensure minimal environmental impact. Additionally, mBlack™ is undergoing certification for compostability, reinforcing its role in sustainable product design. By integrating natural elements such as wood and cork, Minelli positions itself as a leader in material innovation, offering scalable and eco-friendly solutions for the cosmetics and luxury sectors.
